Have you ever experienced a dream become a reality? A vision for a new space or a new office or new home . . . you picture it in your mind . . . then the day comes when you walk into your dream?!!!
Such was my privilege when we finished our KPD Design Studio in December 2024 . . . just in time for a Holiday Tour of Homes (who said Yes to that??!!)
My dream lies behind “KPD Blue” doors at the top of the stairs. Today it's the creative heart of Kathy Patton Designs—a light-filled studio where clients and creatives gather around an oversized island, fabrics and wallpapers line the walls, ideas take shape, and beautiful homes begin.
But Just Two Years Ago . . .
What would become our studio was an unfinished attic filled with boxes and years of accumulated clutter. Ironically, the idea for the Studio began with my electrician. He had just finished installing lights in the attic so I could actually see all my junk. He stopped, looked around, and said, "If this were my house, I'd finish off this space."

That one conversation changed everything and led to one of the biggest “before & after” transformations of my 30 years in design. Many of you have seen it. All of you are invited!

Out went years of storage. To my beloved adult children: "Could you please come get your stuff?!"
In came a vaulted ceiling, three new skylights, custom cabinetry designed to house our ever-growing library of fabrics, wallpapers and trims, floor-to-ceiling inspiration boards, a generous work island where four people can comfortably collaborate, and even a tucked-away wallpaper-lined nook that makes me smile every time I walk by.
Today, the KPD Design Studio is where every project begins. It's where fabrics, wallpapers and trims are layered together, where ideas are refined, where vision boards evolve, and where beautiful, timeless interiors are intentionally designed.
Bright. Organized. Inspiring.
Every time I open The Blue Door, I'm reminded how grateful I am that one casual comment became the inspiration for something so special that now fulfills the design and lifestyle dreams of so many.
My electrician looked at my unfinished attic and saw what could be.
I look at my clients' homes every day and see what could be.
